![]() ![]() ![]() The winner of the Trials becomes the Sunbearer, and travels to each of the various dioses’ temples to refresh their magic sun stones, which protect the cities the temples are located in and help keep the Obsidians locked away. When the dioses gather, Sol selects ten semidioses (half-mortal children of the gods) to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. Every decade, all the dioses gather at the temple of Sol - the first among the gods, who sacrificed their form thousands of years ago in order to keep the evil Obsidian dioses at bay. In the heirarchy of the gods, Quetzal is one of the Jades - the lower rank under the Golds. Teo is a semidios, the son of Quetzal - the diosa (goddess) of birds. I really enjoyed this one, as I expected I would, but of course there had to be a dramatic cliffhanger and now I need to wait ages for book 2. It's gay, it's trans, it's latine, it's magical, it's incredible. The Sunbearer Trials is everything I hoped for from a new Aiden Thomas book. ![]()
